Family law

For when you need someone to turn to

When a relationship breaks down people say things they wouldn't otherwise and it can be hard to see the wood for the trees.

We try to help you stay focused on the bigger picture. That may mean ensuring you receive a fair share of assets when a marriage ends or ensuring a failed relationship is ended with the minimum of fuss and acrimony. It may also mean helping you resolve difficult disputes about your children. We recognise in the family department that:

  • We have to do everything we can to be part of the solution
  • You will want an experienced lawyer to work for you and in whose ability you can feel confident
  • At every stage of the process you will look to us for clear and sensible advice
  • Family disputes can be resolved in a number of ways only one of which involves Court proceedings.

We believe that arrangements you have agreed to, rather than those imposed by a Judge, are often the best option. We will work with you to agree sensible and fair outcomes. We will also fight your corner through the Court when a sensible solution cannot be found by agreement.

We understand the importance of a good solicitor-client relationship and this is especially so in family law, where sensitivities, emotions and anxiety are often raised. We invite you, therefore, to attend an initial interview without making any commitment to instruct us and without any charge.

We deal with all areas of family law ranging from Change of Name Deeds or preparation of Prenuptial Agreements through to full representation in the Family Court on all issues concerning separation, divorce, children and money matters for both the married and unmarried family.

Below are links to documents on Financial Applications and divorce that you may find useful.

We understand how difficult it can be to see a solicitor. Therefore Braydilks offers a free family law clinic at our Truro office each Monday afternoon between 2 and 4pm. We just need to verify your identity and check that there will be no conflict with existing clients; just drop in with identification documents (passport or photo driving licence) at your convenience and make an appointment to see Julia Lilley. Please ring first to avoid disappointment.
